Categories: Caribbean, Jamaican
Yield: 6 Servings
5 Green bananas; up to 6
10 c Water; up to 12 c
2 ts Salt
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 25 minutes
Boiled Green Banana is an accompaniment to many Caribbean dishes. This
healthy fruit has many benefits and is the perfect base for many
delicious meals.
Rinse the bananas in water before boiling them to remove any dirt or
grime that may be on the bananas.
Cut the ends off the bananas. Then using a pairing knife, slice into
the flesh of the banana alongside the long side of the banana. Be
careful not to cut into the inside of the banana. Do not peel the
banana at this stage.
Bring water to a boil in a large pot and a little salt. Carefully add
the bananas to the pot, ensuring that they are fully submerged in the
salted water. Boil for 25 to 30 minutes or until they are tender but
not mushy.
Remove from heat, drain, and let them cool slightly before peeling and
serving.
