• Refunds

From Joseph Pereira@1:124/5016 to All on Fri Jan 9 07:11:01 2026

If the US Supreme Court overturns Trump's import tariffs today, companies seeking refunds must apply by February 6th. In that case, many of the imposed duties will have to be repaid to the companies, and the Trump administration's budget will be completely depleted. The current budget is reportedly $200 billion, potentially requiring repayment.

His tariffs have only hurt American firms and households. Up here in Canada, we are just exporting products overseas more with little impact. It's like a warehouse of natural resources up here. If the US passes on us, they can just pay more for domestic products and Canadians will sell goods to the next guy!

Regan was correct, tariffs just hurt Americans.

I just saw something the other day that specifically discussed Canadian lumber exports, but I presume it might apply to a number of other industries. Since the US was the primary importer of Canadian construction lumber, all the tooling was set up for imperial units of measure. Now that the focus is shifting to other buyers, there's a huge investment required to convert/replace equipment over to metric.

My opinion, for as little as it might be worth, is that recent US economic policy is more globally disruptive than a lot of people are taking into account.

I think if you used the term "... a lot of people are willing to admit" instead of "... a lot of people are taking into account", you'd probably be closer to the mark.
