That's true, but the schools are left leaning anyway. Why pay them to propagate what AI bots can propagate for free?

Because our goal is to eliminate the Left's influence in education.

    That's a great idea but it's a struggle.

AI does nothing but make the current situation cheaper.

Yea I better not speak too soon or we'll end up getting AI teachers and still pay the same or more in school tax.

That's pretty much what I was seeing. It's OK for something like "using my code base, write a simple program to count the widgets" and it would
do it pretty well. But I could still do it faster because I wouldn't
have had to review the resulting code.

It will always be better to write stuff yourself first, but when I get into something that I don't feel like reading the manual on (like "How can I make sure this will work on ios?") then I ask Sonnet 4.5 and it gives great advice.

That's what ESR was saying on X. AIs to a really good job of "reading
    the manuals and explaining things".

I never heard of him until now but he sounds cool. A non-leftist programmer.

That's what I would call a kick ass school board. It's the opposite here.

The School Board here seems to be helpless to the Teachers Union. What a mess. I use to trust the system, not so much any more.

Semester is ending and they had to cancel finals for this semester because of the strike. I don't care so much because this isn't Amanda's final year where she's looking to compete to get into college or whatever. I can see the boards efforts and the union thwarting those efforts.

I'm voting for AI teachers any chance I get.

Here in the states, I believe that the state has the authority to dictate educational requirements like that. But in Canada, the national
    government decides?

No, each province is separate each city might be as well... Edmonton school board runs Edmonton... and so on... I was originally from Ontario smaller town less that 100K... Kawartha Pine Ridge... it just includes the surrounding area.

In the US they federalized things during the Carter admin. Seems Carter got into office with the help of teachers and now we have the American Federation of Teachers... and whatever... You don't need someone in Washington telling you what you need teach or do in Georgia.

People, the government, should look at Alberta's worker geography. I do not know why they did this... BUT in Alberta there are 2 large cities Calgary and Edmonton. In Calgary all the head offices to the oil companies are there where as in Edmonton all the workers are based out of there. Calgary white collar whereas Edmonton is full of blue collar workers.

I think the school systems should be geared up to make people productive. Edmonton should have shop classes the colleges should be geared up to educate people in meaningful trades that help society from the ground up. Whereas Calgary should have plans for their young people as well.

NY has a different economy and demands than that of Wyoming and what not same as Alberta is to Ontario.

School boards should be run by the districts they live in. They should be designed to make the people there meaningful contributers to society. Teachers Unions need to be smaller... Not like the US... Where the unions contribute millions in campaign contributions.

You get the idea. WTF happened. Trump is trying to dismantle the Federal aspects to education, I hope he can do it. Each State needs to dictate their own standards.

It sounds like they are out of control, in Canada. I don't blame the teachers here in the states though. Most of them didn't sign up for this sh!t. My son's teacher punished some kids for not standing for the
pledge of allegiance. I think that's cool as hell.

There are some differences between the 2 countries but I'm telling you in the West we are sucking everywhere... Europe... Everywhere... Except China, I hear they are doing well.

You're right about that, but while schools rely on federal grants (which they do but shouldn't) then they ought to do what the Dept. of Ed. tells them to do. Linda McMahon was in NY recently but she's turning a blind eye to all the DEI stuff that she's supposed to be shuttering.

I think the school systems should be geared up to make people
productive. Edmonton should have shop classes the colleges should be geared up to educate people in meaningful trades that help society from the ground up. Whereas Calgary should have plans for their young people as well.

You're right, they should. In other countries (Panama for example) the high school kids are required to choose a trade and learn the basics of it before graduation. My wife specialized in graphic design. In NY we have trade schools for 11-12th graders (BOCES) but only a small fraction of the kids even go to it, while the majority of the kids get very minimal or no guidance at all for post secondary education. I learned everything the hard way and wasted tons of money and time.

NY has a different economy and demands than that of Wyoming and what not same as Alberta is to Ontario.

Good point. They don't need DEI specialists in Wyoming, but they need them here. ;)

The problem right now is that AI is expensive to offer, but no one wants to pay even the modest fees for it today. And those fees today don't even cover the costs let alone make a profit.

I think we'll see a shakeout this year on AI.

But the problem is more the administrators, less the teachers right now.

In the schools that I've seen, 75% of the administration can be let go with no change to the level of services offered. They are just there to collect paychecks.

And based on the education funding numbers that I've seen, that's what the schools have been doing: padding the administration while enrollment drops and getting more money from the State.

In the US they federalized things during the Carter admin. Seems
Carter got into office with the help of teachers and now we have the American Federation of Teachers... and whatever...
