It works just fine if you had a version of Synchronet installed that supported what you're trying to do!

Every time I connect, it's as a new user and the real name isn't
accepted as the same as the handle (sbbs simply reports that it's
either a dupe or invalid) as I think it's only 1 word. I'd love to
be able to get this to work, but until then I'll be semi-satisfied
with using the anet online game server for individual games.

This might have been addressed recently, if I remember right. But your Synchronet install would need to be updated to the latest. The instructions to do this are also on the wiki.

You are running the latest full package installer (which is not updated daily). Right above that on the same page as the link for that installer, is "Development Update Instructions":

Get the latest binaries in the "Pre-built Executables" section and follow those instructions. Don't forget to run "jsexec update". Don't do /anything/ else until you are fully updated to the latest version. Then, and only then.. go back and do what DM originally told you do in regards to your RLogin server thing.

If after that you still have issues, bring them here and ask your questions a bit more respectfully, if that's possible.
