There was an official statement from @SynologyEurope in response to one
of their videos that confirmed that Synology was "in discussions with manufacturers to ensure that third-party drives will be officially
supported again in the future. However, this is a process that won't be completed overnight. We will keep you updated - thank you for your
patience!"
I recently bought a Synology DS1522+ which is running fine on
third-party drives. I was concerned about the *next* NAS I bought,
preferring to be flexible with obtaining drives.
