I really like both Synchronet and Mystic alot, If I had to run just one sys it would be Synchronet.
But lucky for me I can run both :)

1st BBS I helped run starting in 1987 was the CoCoShop BBS that ran Color Connect BBS software written in Basic by my brother, and ran on a Color Computer 2 with ans RS-232 pak then in 1992 I bought PCBoard from Clark development Co, I lived about 5 miles from Clark development co, actually us to go and hang out with Fred Clark and his staff.
the Original Outwest BBS ran on PCBoard.

The Original Outwest BBS I ran on PCBoard from 92 - 97, then the
Internet hit hard and calls to the BBS pretty much stopped.
so I shut it all down, then in 2015 I found that BBSes had survived
using telnet, So I got back into it.
