    Good morning Daryl!

So I can use my browser to connect? I have not gotten
into D-Star or any of those yet. I have used echolink
quite a bit, and I was building a linux box to use
as a node on one of the services (I forget what it's

from eBay and just abandoned the project).

    Thx

    Apparently so.

I missed doing that net tonight, as I was at a Zoom Meeting
for the Net Controls for the HandiHam Radio Club.

As I've noted, there are too many nets, too many modes, too
much confusion, too little time to check into them, and too few
folks wanting to be Net Control.

The net meets most Mondays, EXCEPT during the weeks of Easter,
Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas,
    and New Years Day.

I'm normally the scribe for the net...but I connect via the iptelnet
client with the Outpost Packet program.

Most of the time, my modes are on D-Star. But, with Santa bringing
me a SharkRF M1KE as an early Christmas present, I can now do AllStar.

Okay - I need to check into that...

It's better trying to get into the PCL Net via internet (web browser
or telnet), as HF propagation is usually lousy.

Yeah, you mentioned that. :-) Good stuff!

The one thing I learned is that if you set up more than one profile
with the M1KE, you have to obtain a different token for AllStar. So,
I'm going to leave things as they are for now. I've learned the hard
way, when I muck with things, it ends up being a disaster. :P

I have one now! A fellow ham 'handed down' a Kenwood TS-140S,
MFJ-941E tuner and a homemade fan dipole! I powered up the radio
last night just to confirm it works - but no transmit, as antenna
    not up yet.

I don't really have room for the longest parts of it, but for now
I'm going to make an inverted V on my tower and use at least the
10 meter part... Get my feet wet, so to speak, and if everything
works okay I'll get another power supply to run it as well for
more power and I'll invest in an antenna I can mount without taking
up 100' of yard space. :-)

I heard a ham last night say, "There's no meteres like 10 meters."

    Jimmy,

I've saved this info and will do it soon...

The net won't meet on Nov. 24 (next Monday) for Thanksgiving Week,
or Dec. 22 (Christmas Week) or Dec. 29 for New Years Week. It takes
OFF the weeks of Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.

Right now, my next project 'at home' is hooking up an HF rig!

Now, if the bands will cooperate this winter.

15 Years ago, the no frills HF rig I used on the Arkansas and
Missouri Railroad, was an Icom IC-718. It was designed to "get your
    feet wet in HF".

Yeah, I saw that - and I DID get my login and just tested it.

What kind of antenna did you use?

    Good deal.

What kind of antenna did you use?

It was the portable HamStick antenna. They have one for different bands.

When I was HF Railroad Mobile in May, 2011, on the Arkansas And Missouri Railroad Troop Train, we had a 20 meter hamstick on the back of the restored 1927 Harlan and Hollingsworth Passenger Car, and we were in the cramped Conductor's Cabin, with an Icom IC 718. We had to make sure that the HamStick wasn't too tall, so that it'd fit into the tunnel at Winslow, on the old
    Frisco line.
